Versuch über Intelligenz

Kaum etwas ist so irreführend im Bereich der Psychologie wie die Rede von der angeblichen Intelligenz eines Menschen. Insbesondere wenn Bezug genommen wird auf den Intellligenzquotienten, der viele Menschen auch auf die Idee bringt, möglicherweise zum erlauchten Kreis der Hochintelligenten zu gehören, wenn sie bei einem Test mit einem hohen Intelligenzquotienten abschließen.

Die gängigen Intelligenztests gehen selbstverständlich davon aus, dass es so etwas wie die Intelligenz an sich gar nicht gibt, aber dass man durch Auswertung von Subtests, die jeweils einzelne Aspekte von Intelligenz ansprechen und durch ihre Verrechnung miteinander die Möglichkeit hat, ein vergleichbares Maß zu finden, die eben doch Aussagen über die Intelligenz als solche erlauben. Das ist aber eigentlich ein wissenschaftlicher Trick und sollte mit großer Skepsis betrachtet werden.

Im praktischen Leben ist klar nachvollziehbar, dass es völlig verschiedene Arten von Intelligenz gibt, die in der Regel unabhängig voneinander und in unterschiedlichen Kombinationen miteinander auftreten können. In unserem bisherigen Bildungssystem werden vor allem Aspekte der kognitiven Intelligenz gefördert. Hierzu gehört vor allem das Faktenwissen und die Schulung von von Problemlösungsstrategien z.B. in der Mathematik, Aspekte der Intelligenz im sprachlichen Bereich etc. Durch das Kurssystem und früh einsetzende Spezialisierung geht es aber im Bildungssystem nicht so sehr um eine breite Förderung unterschiedlicher Arten von Intelligenz, sondern mehr darum, in wenigen Fächern möglichst gute Schulnoten zu erwerben, um den Auswahlverfahren für die Universitäten besser entsprechen zu können.

Wer z.B. gut auswendig lernen kann, also besonders intelligent ist im Bereich seiner Gedächtnisleistung, wird von diesem System eindeutig bevorteilt, auch wenn seine Intelligenzleistungen in vielen anderen Bereichen eher schlecht oder bestenfalls durchschnittlich sind.

Ein Hauptproblem bei der realistischen, d.h. unideologischen Betrachtungsweise des Phänomens Intelligenz ist der Hang zu Quantifizierung, der Wunsch, etwas in der Formel eines Mehr oder Weniger einer abstrakten Intelligenz an sich ausdrücken zu wollen. Aber ist es tatsächlich so, dass jemand ein besserer Arzt wird, wenn er leicht auswendig lernen kann? Darf man umstandslos von einer besonders stark ausgeprägten Intelligenz in einem Bereich auf eine hochentwickelte Intelligenz in anderen Bereichen schließen?

Vermutlich kaum.

Deshalb mein Vorschlag: Die quantifizierenden Betrachtungsweisen einer fiktiven allgemeinen Intelligenz aufzugeben und stattdessen nach qualitativen Aspekten von verschiedenen Arten von Intelligenz Ausschau zu halten.

Als ich vor kurzem meine Seite über hochfunktionalen Autismus überarbeitet habe, wurde mir noch mal deutlich vor Augen geführt, welche Defizite es im Bereich der emotionalen und sozialen Intelligenz geben kann, und wie sehr aber auch gerade in diesem Bereich Kompensationen möglich sind. Ebenso finden sich auf meiner Seite über Finanzcoaching viele Hinweise auf das Vorhandensein einer Finanziellen Intelligenz, also einer Fähigkeit, Werte so zu tauschen, dass eine Wertvermehrung, bzw. ein Schutz vor Wertverlust möglich ist und vor allem im Alter ein passives Einkommen erreicht werden kann.

Wenn man erst einmal anfängt, nach grundverschiedenen Spielarten der Intelligenz zu suchen, wird schnell deutlich: es gibt vor allem die Intelligenz im Bereich des sprachlichen Verstehens der sprachlichen Kommunikation, des mathematischen Verständnisses, im Bereich der feinmotorischen oder grobmotorischen Fähigkeiten, es gibt die Intelligenz des proaktiven Problemlösens, d.h. da Chancen zu sehen, wo andere sich von Problemen bedrängt fühlen. Ein weiterer Aspekt ist die musikalische Intelligenz in Bezug auf Rhythmusgefühl, Melodie und Harmonie, weiterhin die Intelligenz im visuellen gestalterischen Bereich in Bezug auf Form- und Farbwahrnehmung. Schließlich auch von besonderer Bedeutung, auch die Intelligenz im Bereich der verschiedenen Arten des Gedächtnisses, dem visuellen Gedächtnis, Zahlengedächtnis, biographischen Gedächtnis. Manche Menschen zeichnen sich aus durch besondere Intelligenz im Umgang mit Technik oder im handwerklichen Bereich. Die Intelligenz im Bereich der Kreativität, der Phantasie sollten ebenfalls nicht unerwähnt bleiben. Die Aufzählung hier ist aber sicher unvollständig.

Was sagt die Redewendung „Die dümmsten Bauern haben die dicksten Kartoffeln“? Vermutlich ist eine besondere Form der Intelligenz gemeint, bei der Menschen die Fähigkeit anwenden, durch Fokussierung auf wesentliche, einfache Elemente zu viel größerer Effektivität zu gelangen, als überstudierte Verkomplizierer, die letztlich unter Reizüberflutung leiden und den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht mehr sehen.

Sehr interessant für die weitere Vertiefung des Themas könnte sein die Beschäftigung mit dem Film ‘Amadeus’ (1984). In diesem Film wird ein fiktionalisierter Mozart einem fiktionalisiertem Salieri gegenübergestellt. Beide Figuren werden zwar parodiehaft überzeichnet, aber das Problem tritt dadurch nur um so deutlicher zu Tage. Der fiktionalisierte Mozart ist wie auch der historische Mozart ein musikalisches Genie von schier unglaublicher musikalischer Intelligenz, während der fiktionale Salieri sich selbst nur als durchschnittlich guten Komponisten betrachtet. Wahrscheinlich wird dies dem historischen Salieri nicht ganz gerecht. Aber darauf kommt es in der dramatischen Handlung des Films nicht so sehr an. Vielmehr geht es darum, dass ein hochintellektueller Mensch im Bereich der Musik offenbar mit nur durchschnittlichen Leistungen im Bereich des sozial-kommunikativen Verstehens und Handelns ausgestattet sein kann. Und im Gegenzug trifft er auf einen durchschnittlichen Musiker, der aber selbst auch ein Genie ist, aber auf einem ganz anderen Feld, dem der Intrige. Der Filmhandlung zufolge siegt zunächst Salieri, langfristig jedoch Mozart, aber vielleicht hätte es auch anders ausgehen können. Macht es irgendwelchen Sinn, darüber zu spekulieren, ob nun Mozart oder Salieri intelligenter waren? Beide waren Genien in ihren jeweiligen Bereichen, die so sehr nebeneinander stehen, dass sich ein quantitativer Vergleich verbietet.

Das Wesen der Intelligenz entschlüsselt sich viel leichter, wenn wir von unterschiedlichen Qualitäten ausgehen, die als solche erst einmal für sich stehen und durch ihre Kombination schließlich handlungsmächtig werden können.
